Dear Dog Friends,

I am writing this letter to you because I have been made aware of some rumors about the health of Norrbottenspets that are completely out of tune with reality.  I have known Inger Colins since 1992 and have a very large number of dogs bread by her in my classes with Human Dog Leadership Inc. and I never seen a single one that is not perfectly healthy!  Aside from being incredible to learn, these dogs are generally completely "vet free" for years on a row when they are being treated the way they should, which means
natural, raw meat, bones, and vegetables for food - no kibble!
plenty of exercise and "brain work"
no vaccines before at least 12 weeks of age, and then only one at a time,
   max every third year.

I must confess that my experience is horribly biased, because very few students of Human Dog Leadership Inc. or other people who come close to me dare to continue kibble feeding and yearly vaccinations.  But that is exactly the point I would like you to pay attention to - because I am certain that the origin of all health trouble for Norrbottenspets start with multiple vaccines and a completely un-natural diet.

I know that the cataract eye disease has been blown up to be a major issue for the breed.  Yes, it can possibly cause irreversible blindness in worst cases - but I know of nobody who saw a Norrbottenspets that actually went blind!  For the record, I know at least 30 owners of them, and even the few who do have the cataract have lived with it for years without loss of sight or any other complications following the disease.  But quite honestly, checking with the Canadian Kennel Club will make you aware that this problem is "nothing", compared to what other breeds have to fight with...  I am not asking anyone
to neglect this problem, though, just to act with care, not blowing it out of proportions with hysteria....

Risking hip dysphasia with a Norrbottenspets is BS.  If you feed these dogs a natural diet, I guarantee that they will NOT develop the disease.  There is strong Swedish evidence behind this:  HD is caused by an insufficient development of the hip socket, caused by several factors, including too much protein in the diet, too many chemicals in the food, too many x-rays on the growing bones (x-raying a puppy or a pregnant bitch in order to count the puppies should be forbidden - but vets do it all the time!) when
several of these factors are combined with a genetic disposition that is highly unlikely to exist in this breed.  The vast majority of all HD cases are man-made and completely avoidable through natural feeding.  But I know it takes a lot to make lazy North American dog owners give up on that darn convenient kibble!  And the vets, of course do not want to recommend any food they do not know anything about and cannot sell themselves.  (Yes, vets do not learn anything about carnivore nutrition in order to obtain their title and license to practice... call Agriculture Canada and ask, if you were in doubt!)

Also for the record: At least 90% of all seizures  are caused by vaccination - too often and with too many vaccines combined.  Check with Dean Dodds, Catherine O'Driscoll (who wrote the book: "Who killed the darling buds of May?"), or the German vaccine manufacturer (the world's largest) E. Merck, Darmstadt, who publishes the famous "Pharmaceutical bible" that is used as standard reference also by doctors in North America.

Because Norrbottenspets have not yet been destroyed by commercial and show-biz type breeding for looks instead of health and performance, I would believe that they are even more vulnerable than other breeds (who have been bred through kibble and vaccine for some generations now, eliminating by brutal death some of the worst reactions towards that crap...).  This makes it even more necessary to protect them by treating them right - and when you do so, they are for sure also very healthy.  You don't need fresh import from Sweden to do that.  The only thing the Swedes do different is that they don't
vaccinate so hysterically and they feed their dogs some real dog food.  You only need to use your own common sense and respect the nature of these dogs instead of trying to make commercial "pets" out of them and have them adapted to human standards for what is good for them and not.  Heaven, they are not mini monkeys - they are small family wolves!  Please love them for that - and give them what they need to stay that way.
